My web design is very simple, very clean, easy to navigate, and easy to read.

It seems that web design has gotten away from being easily navigated and into something flashy and full of blinky ads. I have to say, I hate all of that.

I'm a self-taught web designer. I started designing free web pages back in the early 90s, when every girl had a web page. I taught myself HTML. When I began blogging, I created my own designs that emphasized readability. Obviously, the main purpose of a blog is for reading, and that's where I laid the foundation for all my design. I continued designing blogs for everyone in my diaryland group of friends. And then I found a niche: fixing code. So many people would have these designs created by someone else and then adapted to their page with fancy cursor icons and other blinky and sparkly junk. Within this, they would lose elements, and that's where I began really honing my html skills. I would come in and break down their code, reorganize it, and recreate it. In this manner, I began to read code like most people would read a book. To this day, I can sit down and write out a webpage on a piece of paper. If you then put that into a text editor and uploaded the html file to the web, you'd have a webpage. It's not a common skill.

I continue to handcode all of my css and html. I create clean, cross-browser compatible and web-reader compatible css.

In a similar manner to how I honed my html skills, I honed my css skills in the Design and Development Department at the University of Akron. I was given pages at a time that needed converted from html to css. And so I did, by hand, by line, every day.

You would be hard pressed to find better code than mine on the web.

As for my design philosophy...well, it doesn't involve flash. I'm not going to create some fancy page for you with a splash page and animations. Find someone else for that. That's not my thing. I will display your information in a very easy to read manner with simple and fresh navigation. Your pages will load quickly and everyone, including your grandmother, will be able to read and navigate them. They will look the same on your friend's super old desktop, windows 99 computer as they will on a super new windows vista laptop or a mac user with safari or a linux user or anyone using firefox.

My designs are classic and timeless.

My graphic design follows my the same philosophy. It is often minimalistic. It's simple, clean, and beautiful. Check out my graphic design portfolio here.
